Dr. Satwant Kaur Appointed New HP HLS Innovation Chief Technologist

The ‘first lady of emerging technologies’, Dr. Satwant Kaur, has been appointed as HP’s new HLS innovation chief technologist.

Dr. Satwant Kaur, who has made a name for herself as “First Lady of Emerging Technologies” has taken the position of HP HLS Innovation Chief Technologist in the office of the CTO at Hewlett-Packard.

Before joining the team at HP, she served as a platform strategist in the Intel Architecture Group at Intel and as director of development at Symantec.   Dr. Kaur is known for building many first-of-a-kind systems, and she has built technologies and solutions related to or dealing with Intel chips, embedded systems, cloud computing, mobile networks, enterprise security, enterprise storage, enterprise systems, eCommerce, ePayments, Big Data analytics, industrial automation, intelligent environments, and virtualization across the stack.

The United States honored her abilities and accomplishments by bequeathing citizenship in the highest category, "Extraordinary Ability", in 2000.  She has received many awards and accolades for her unparalleled accomplishments in technology, including: Intel’s 2009 Technology Innovation Award, Intel’s 2009 Outstanding Women Award, and IEEE EIT’s 2001 best paper award for her paper “Mobile IP and Implementation of Regional Registration”.

She has authored the Amazon bestseller book "Transitioning Embedded Systems to Intelligent Environments".  Dr. Kaur has over 20 years of experience as a technology executive, and she has been hailed as “First Lady of Emerging Technologies” by television, radio, video, and podcast media worldwide.  Dr. Kaur had a weekly podcast "First Lady of Emerging Technologies" on "Computers2Know", with an audience of thousands in 2011, and she has been featured in high-profile media outlets, such as the Huffington Post, CBS’s TechRepublic, Into Tomorrow Radio, TapScape, Etopia News,ImageSource Magazine, The Peggy Smedley Radio Show, IT World Canada, IS Magazine, IETE International Journals, Connected World Magazine, Mobile Dev& Design, Money Radio 1510, and Askimo TV.

Choosing a Writing Genre

Selecting a genre for your new book can be a difficult process, especially for a new writer. Remembering a few things will make your selection easier. Every genre is made up of several sub-genres and finding the right fit will help you write a story that will be published.
 

Write what you know. If you are not writing in a genre you are comfortable with, it will show. Editors expect writers to be able to handle the genre they choose and make the content believable. If you are beyond your depth, this is impossible.
 

Research your genre. Many writers fail to properly investigate a genre. Read numerous books from different authors in your genre. While you do not want to imitate them, it will give you a better idea of sub-genres as well as how these writers handled the genre.
 

Research what is selling. The sad truth is, not all genres are popular, and breaking into a particularly difficult genre can be nearly impossible. Look at what publishers are interested in and which books are doing well on the bestseller lists. Just because you feel drawn to an obscure genre does not mean that it will sell. Some genres are so limited that only a handful of publishers work on them, and breaking in can be an exercise in futility.
 

Picking a genre doesn't have to be painful. Listen to your story, make sure you are capable of writing in the genre, and it is a marketable one. If you have these things in place you will be more likely to find success.
