First Lady of Emerging Technologies Predicts the Future of Driving

Dr.Satwant Kaur, HP Distinguished Technologist, believes that human error will soon be eliminated from our daily transportation.

Some might say that exciting, futuristic predictions are Dr. Satwant Kaur's forte. Her many awards and accolades celebrate unparalleled accomplishments in technology, and her version of the future can often seem like science fiction.  However, humanity has made great technological strides, and will surely continue to do so; Dr. Kaur believes that in the near future, technology will completely alter how we drive our cars.

Humanity has known roughly a century with the automobile, perhaps the greatest innovation of its time. Personal travel before the car was slow, uncomfortable, and often reliant on farm animals. Now, about a hundred years later, Dr. Kaur predicts a new, surprising future for cars: that they will become autonomous and self-driving. These self-driving cars could be a reality by as early as 2020, utilizing vehicle-to-vehicle communications technology. According to Dr. Kaur, machines communicate better with other machines than with humans; this is due to predictable programmatic behaviors. Also, the elimination of human drivers would eliminate most car accidents, since many result from human error- we bring with us the element of surprise, often causing these crashes. Therefore, the roadways of the future will be much safer.

Dr. Kaur notes that the easiest way to drive will be using the new technology for autonomous cars. She also believes that roads will be dedicated to the sole use of self-driving cars. Autonomous cars will also be extremely helpful they will be able to recognize and avoid pedestrians, and will be able to identify and avoid construction or other roadway hazards. These may seem like outlandish advancements; however, it isn't as radical to us now as the idea of a pocket-sized computer was thirty years ago. As always, Dr. Kaur reminds us that impressive and radical changes may be nearer than we might think.

The Knighting of Sir Kaye nominated for the Voyager (Young Reader) Marble Award from Storytellers Campfire:

Sir Kaye Needs Your Vote!
On September 28th, it was announced on the Storyteller’s Campfire radio program that The Knighting of Sir Kaye was nominated for their first Voyager Marble Award in the Pre-teen, Teen and Young Adult category—see below for background on the Marble Awards.  The award winners will be announced sometime in February.
A big part of the winning selection will be audience/consumer votes and here is where we need to get out the vote for Sir Kaye

How To Vote:
On the Marble Awards website there is a button that says “Vote for Nominee”.  When you push the button I will bring up a blank email with just their email address (admin@storytellerscampfire.org).

The easiest thing to do is just send an email using the above email address without needing to go to their webpage.   Next, just enter something in the subject line (like: voting for Marble Award nominee or whatever you’d like) and in the body of the email just state that you would like to vote for the The Knighting of Sir Kaye for the Voyager Marble Award and anything else you would like to say about Sir Kaye…or just leave it at that, that’s up to you.

The Knighting of Sir Kaye has a good chance of winning if we can get out the vote.  Please vote and if you can ask family and friends to vote too that would be even better.   Please let me know as soon as you’ve voted and if you were able to get other votes so I can try to keep track (to the extent possible) of the number of votes.

Here's the Marble Awards page:

First Lady of Emerging Technologies Predicts Great Advances in Alzheimer's Detection

Dr. Kaur, HP Distinguished Technologist, believes that we will soon be able to detect the disease decades before it reaches the brain.

Kaur believes that in the near future, technology will greatly aid in Alzheimer's detection.

Alzheimer's as we know it is nearly impossible to avoid, because by the time it is detected, it's too late to stop. However, what if Alzheimer's could be detected in the eyes of a patient decades before the disease reached their brain? Dr. Satwant Kaur predicts that by 2020, radical changes could already be shaping the way we diagnose and deal with Alzheimer's. She believes that noninvasive Retinal Imaging Scan will detect Alzheimer's in a patient's eyes. This is an even more impressive concept because the test may show the special kinds of plaque in the retina that appear even before the onset of Alzheimer’s in the eye- meaning doctors and patients can truly prepare, and perhaps even fight, the disease. This plaque that first appears in eye then accumulates in the brain; once there, it causes Alzheimer's.

Dr. Kaur notes that part of the difficulty in fighting Alzheimer's stems from the inability to detect the disease before it is already affecting a patient. However, early detection will enable early intervention before Alzheimer's even appears. This prediction, like many of Dr. Kaur's others, feels as though we are launching into the future at high speed. However, early Alzheimer's detection isn't as radical to us now as the idea of a pocket-sized computer was thirty years ago. As always, Dr. Kaur reminds us that impressive and radical changes may be nearer than we might think.

A Thrilling Tome for Preppers and Sci-Fi/ Fantasy Fans Alike

Ron Foster's 'Crick: A Prepper is Cast Adrift' is book two in aseries that pits preppers against the apocalypse itself.

Preppers make it their business to be ready for the worst- case scenario at all times. However, even the most seasoned preppers could not anticipate the calamity that faces the characters in Crick: A Prepper is Cast Adrift. This is book two of Ron Foster's A Prepper is Cast Adrift series, during which Foster crafts a tense tale of survival under the most desperate of circumstances.

In this grim world, a cyber-attack has destroyed 80 percent of America's electrical grid, stranding hundreds of millions in darkness without infrastructure, nor running water. Martial law has been declared, with rumors flying that Russian troops have become involved with security and continued operations of the government. Both of these situations would be bad enough without the third event: a terrorist attack on the hydroelectric dams surrounding a prepper festival. With the dams blown, the intrepid preppers become stranded on an island with little food and almost no chance of escape.

Foster's sequel to The Prepper's Lament is a riveting tale of wit and ingenuity in the face of desperate times. After all, those who live by the law of preparedness are uniquely equipped for such a challenge. Foster even sprinkles real prepper tips throughout his novel, making it as educational as it is dramatic. Additionally, a peppering of charming, Southern-country humor and larger than life characters add moments of levity between heart-stopping adventure.

Preppers have become part of mainstream pop culture in recent years, but Ron Foster has been writing about the survivalist lifestyle since long before that. Crick: A Prepper is Cast Adrift bears the authenticity of its author's experience, yet is accessible and extremely entertaining for preppers, non-preppers and Sci-Fi/ Fantasy fans alike.

Ron Foster

Ron Foster is a well-followed, prolific Alabama prepper and fiction author of over 30 books. He has a unique knack for including humor as well as survival preparedness tips and tricks in his post-apocalyptic disaster stories, and is best known for his early work writing the classic Prepper Road March trilogy.

Ron is a frequent expert guest on Radio talk shows and attends many Prepper conferences and expos. He wrote this book to commemorate Lowbuck Prepper`s Prepper Stock 2014 event and to give thanks to all the attendees for their support.

Ron holds two masters degrees in Emergency Management and Homeland Security and Terrorism studies and has been a "survivalist" and a "prepper" -- long before the terms were coined by mainstream media.

Khaki=Killer Free On Amazon July 9-13

Recently named a "PageTurner" by Shelf Unbound magazine, NABE Pinnacle Thriller winner, an E-Lit Gold Medal winner (Horror)and 2 time Silver Feather (IWPA) winner , The Color of Evil series details the adventures of the young man (Tad McGreevy) with the power to detect auras around others (Tetrachromatic Super Vision) and to relive the crimes of those with "the color of evil" in his dreams.

Khaki = Killer , the third book in the Color of Evil Series, picks up where Red Is for Rage left off, answering the question, “What happened to Melody (Harris) Carpenter?”

Readers of Red Is for Rage, [Book #2 in The Color of Evil series], will remember that Melody was involved in a rescheduled UNI (University of Northern Iowa) football game, cheering for the Sky High Eagles. Rushed to the hospital with injuries suffered in a fall from atop the human pyramid [formed by fellow cheerleaders Heather, Kelly, Janice, Angie, and Jenny, Melody is hospitalized and fighting for her life as Khaki = Killer opens.

The budding romance between Janice and Stevie continues to grow more serious, but Janice’s parents oppose her relationship with the son of the man who shot and killed so many townsfolk at the Homecoming game. There are more revelations about Earl Scranton’s motives, and other romance s develop (Tad and Jenny; Charlie and Andrea).

When Heather Crompton and Kelly Carter mysteriously disappear, the tension in town ratchets to a fever pitch. The entire town is involved in the search. Retired police officer Charlie Chandler reorganizes the rag-tag team that helped find Stevie Scranton and bring him back to Cedar Falls, Iowa.

In the background lurks Michael Clay (aka, Pogo), still searching for Tad McGreevy, still hoping to permanently silence “the boy who can see the future.”

Tensions run high and the stakes run even higher in KHAKI = KILLER, Book #3 in THE COLOR OF EVIL series.
As reviewer (True Review) Andy Andrews put it: "Wilson makes all this count and mixes the ugly and the good in ways that can turn out to be rewarding for readers...There are moments of a real gift here...deft touches...especially between Stevie (Scranton) and his girlfriend, that are quite touching and even inspired...So, I remain happy to follow this series, I am assuming this series will reach a conclusion and I cannot wait to see how Wilson writes it."

"Connie Corcoran Wilson weaves a deftly fine scalpel in an age where a crude blade is more the norm. Her work is a smooth, subtle hybrid mix of science fiction, thriller, and horror that realizes a unique and pointed vision in the great tradition of Phillip K. Dick and Ray Bradbury. Her voice is a wonder to behold, at once dark and somber while maintaining a glimmer of hope that shines in the hearts of her heroes, who cling to the light. Like Stephen King, nothing escapes her discerning eye, the result of which is tale after tale that bleed life onto the page, both literally and figuratively."—Jon Land, bestselling author of the Caitlin Strong Series

"Connie Wilson is back—-She's good! She's DAMN good! In a world of mainly bad-to-fair writers, she stands above the crowd with plot, description , and strong character. Believe me, you'll enjoy her latest! that's a guarantee!...She's a born storyteller!"—William F. Nolan, Living Legend in Dark Fantasy, "Logan's Run," "Logan's World," "Nightworlds"

"Wilson's characters come alive on the page. Comparisons to Stephen King, Dean Koontz and Philip K. Dick aside, Wilson has spent 33 years teaching students in this age range. She knows what she is talking about."—Gary Braver, author of "Flashback" and 8 other thrillers.

"THE COLOR OF EVIL series is old-school psychological horror, artfully blended with new-school shocks and twists. ..Bravo!" —Jonathan Maberry, New York Times best-selling author, multiple Bram Stoker winner

Paranormal Thriller Red Is For Rage

RED IS FOR RAGE , 2nd book in THE COLOR OF EVIL series, was named a “Page Turner of 2013,” by “Shelf Unbound” magazine, a Pinnacle Thriller winner, an IWPA Silver Feather award-winner, and praised for a Best Indie Cover of 2013. It picks up where the first book left off, plunging us, once again, into the world of Tad McGreevy, the boy with the paranormal power to see “the color of evil” (Tetrachromatic Super Vision).

Stevie Scranton plays a major part in Book #2 as a loyal band led by Tad and retired Policeman Charlie Chandler strive to find and return Stevie to Cedar Falls (IA) when he goes missing. Dubbed “eerie and captivating” and “a great continuation” by reviewers.
“If you’re looking for a book full of action and adventure, then this is the one for you,” said one Amazon reviewer.

Another noted, “I like that Wilson touches on real problems in society, but she does it with such heartfelt empathy, compassion and great dialogue that I could picture these things happening.” “Full of mystery, thrills and horror. What more do you want?” Krystal (Willingham) said, adding, “I swear if there is not a third book, I am going to be super disappointed, because I want to know what happens next.”

Said Jon Land, author of the Caitlin Strong series, “Wilson’s voice is a wonder to behold, dark and somber while maintaining a glimmer of hope that shines in the hearts of her heroes, who cling to the light. Like Stephen King, nothing escapes her discerning eye, the result of which is tale after tale that bleed life onto the page, both literally and figuratively.”
